Subject Guides

I would like to see the Subject Portholes used in a more co-ordinated way. I suggest that as a first step we aim to produce some useful subject guides. Initially, these could be little more than recommended 'route maps' for a subject area with some good OCW links to follow but with the scope for further development. Whatever your academic experience in a subject area it is likely that you can help in some way by considering one or more of the following (in rough order of difficulty or time commitment):

  • What type of learning methods and / or materials do you find particularly helpful - and just as important, unhelpful? (This is important information even if your knowledge of a particular subject is quite basic.)

  • Providing links to OCW items and / or other educational resources (free textbooks?) you recommend from personal experience - just give links in plain text if you like.
  • Writing a brief subject guide incorporating links as necessary providing a newcomer to the subject with some sense of purpose and direction. (Again, links in plain text are OK)
  • We are trying here to generate an Open Educational Resource as if it was Open Software! Any thoughts, ideas etc on how this should be done would be very welcome (post them below).

Please add your contributions as comments in the relevant subject porthole. The facilitators may assist in matters of presentation but cannot be expected to have expertise in your particular subject area. Anyone who does is more than welcome to add their own constructive comments.
