MooCow's 'Wasted Love' and Some Ruminations

MooCow: Hi there iBerry!

iBerry: Oh MooCow! We thought you'd gone away?

MC: No way! Well done JJ ! Great song!

iB: What? Cows don't know about the Eurovision Song Contest!

MC: Course they do! 'Wasted Love', operatic ballad with inspiring vocals mutating into a club anthem for the finale . . .

iB: Eh? Yes, it's all about humans and unrequited love. Glad you were inspired!

MC: I wasn't inspired but you should have been! You totally don't get it do you?

iB: Oh we do! Critics praised the vocal talent, dramatic staging, and . . .

MC: Look, humans are in it, OK, but it's about what you've done to Mother Earth as she sadly contemplates love bestowed on humanity, only to be damaged and exploited in return! Just listen!

"You don't want to go under
So you let me go under
I reach out my hand
But you watch me grow distant"

iB: Humph! That's a rather poetic interpretation MooCow. Of course we humans don't want to go under. We're very serious now about the well-being of the planet and we're doing everything we can to save . . .

MC: yourselves?

iB: Not at all! We're saving other species from extinction too and we're seriously considering what we can do to . . . . .

MC: Oh yeah? You're doing that so well that more species than ever are going extinct year by year! Do more than consider. I've said it before, Ruminate ! "Ruminate for 20 minutes every day . . . unless you're too busy. Then you should ruminate for an hour."

iB: You mean, "Chew things over and over again?" Oh yes, we do that a lot but everyone has their own ideas and . . .

MC: Not if you wake up to Mother Earth's message! Meditate, muse, ponder, pray - whatever it takes to face the Truth. Your main environmental problems are simply selfishness, greed and apathy, all of your own making!!

iB: Steady on MooCow! We can't change deeply held beliefs and cultural norms at a stroke and what's more . . .

MC: Change my hoof! Your beliefs needn't change much, but you should! You even have messages on this website, on scores of pages - female humans with a poster saying, "Climate has changed - will we?"

iB: Um, well, yes we do think people should be more aware, and reconsider their relationship with nature. That's why we link to so many websites with all the . . .

MC: facts and figures! Wrong again! Just get everybody out on a clear night.

IB: Eh? What do you mean MooCow? It might rain!

MC: No rain, just look upwards at the twinkling stars and contemplate the beauty of the universe. Even humans can sense wonder and amazement if they let themselves . . . . ruminate!

IB: Well you may have a point but many of us don't get outside much. Maybe we could if we . . .

MC: No ifs and buts! If you don't do clear nights, go for a walk in the woods, climb a mountain, connect with Mother Earth somehow!

iB: iBerry does try to educate people about connecting with nature and . . .

MC: Oh yeah? Many of you already know about all that but you're so stupid you do absolutely nothing about your terrible lifestyles, ruining the planet as well as yourselves. It doesn't have to be gloom and doom but hearts and minds must change or it's all over for you!

iB: But some of us have electric cars!

MC: I give up! . . . Toodeloo!

IB: Oh she's gone! . . . but food for thought eh? . . . something in what she says? . . . ecological awakening? . . . hmm . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . .

What is this life if, full of care,
We have no time to stand and stare.

No time to stand beneath the boughs
And stare as long as sheep or cows.

No time to see, when woods we pass,
Where squirrels hide their nuts in grass.

No time to see, in broad daylight,
Streams full of stars, like skies at night.

No time to turn at Beauty's glance,
And watch her feet, how they can dance.

No time to wait till her mouth can
Enrich that smile her eyes began.

A poor life this if, full of care, We have no time to stand and stare.
